These results present the idea that many don't mind grime as genre of music. Prior to handing out these questionnaires, I expected many to say tat stye did like the genre of grime, and that it would be harder to engage the audiences as majority wouldn't like the type of music. However, 40% of those who were questioned stated that they don't mind the genre of music and they could tolerate it. This is an advantage in terms of my documentary, as it'll allow me to try and convince those who don't mind it to think that it is a good genre of music. AS said in a previous post, I want to represent the grime scene in a positive manner, and i intend to persuade the audience into loving the music and seeing it in a new light.
30% of the audience considered grime as a type of music associated with being creative, and the same amount thought it was associated with crime. I expected to be evenly distributed as many people have different opinion. The 20% of those who said other both stated grime as an "intense" type of music. The descriptions of others both had negative connotation, which will not help me to develop ideas on how to make them think otherwise. I don't want people to watch my documentary and leave feeling the same way about grime. I either want them to leave loving grime even more or at least change their minds and give them a more neutral feeling about it. I will try and show particular scenes as peaceful and calm to help those who thought grime was crime related or intense to think otherwise.
Many considered themselves around 5/10 creative. In my option, considering majority of those who were questioned were teenagers, I don't not think that is very positive. I want the younger generation to be inspired by my documentary and feel as if they can go out and do more things that'll help them express their inner creativity. I will definitely now present more creative activities now and will reach out to a wide number of artists to try and attract as many as possible to allow the audience to feel as if they can relate to those in the documentary. Photography, music, art, dance and many other arts will be presented so that in result audiences can find it easier to identify which talent they relate to most.
All of those who were questioned all had a positive outlook on creativity. They all either said they like it or love it, therefore this shows once again that my target audience will enjoy this as it'll present many scenes of creativity. In this sense, I will not have to present any scene that have the intention to change the audiences perception as they all already think that creativity is a good thing and that they enjoy seeing it in documentaries as well as real life situations.
All of those whom were asked gave their opinion of my documentary a 7 or higher. Knowing the audience are intrigued in my documentary and that they like the sound of it, it allows me now to focus on producing the final product instead of changing any ideas or concepts. Furthermore, knowing the audience likes the idea is good because it is more likely for them to enjoy watching it.
Exactly half of those questioned said they would 10/10 watch my documentary once it has been produced. This is positive and encouraging as it shows that there will be an audience that will be eager to watch the documentary and that it wouldn't just be a documentary that people stumble upon. Ensuring that camera shots, sound and editing goes well, the documentary is heading towards a good reception.
One comment said "make it good and interesting" suggesting that audience want to be engage from the outset. One further comment stated that it need no improvements and that it was perfect, suggesting that they are looking forward to watching it and that I should continue the way I am so far. And the final further improvement suggested to create a correct balance between interviews, archive footage and and live footage. This comment implied that to engage them inside th edocuwemtnary, there should be a good distribution of all types of shots and music, allowing it to be dynamic and unpredictable.
Overall the audience feedback was helpful due to the fact that it extremely helped me in kicking off and knowing whether it was the right time to start the production process or whether to assess the plan and ideas before going any further. In general, these comment have convince me start filming an start creating an engaging narrative that'll help promote creativity and change audiences perception on grime.
