Using Pixemator

For my two ancillary tasks, which included making a magazine article for my documentary and making an advert, I used a software called Pixlemator. This is essentially a photo editing software that allows you to combine various pictures and effect together to produce one whole picture. On this software, you can filter, text, play around with the tones of the pictures, increase and decrease the opacity of certainn things, crop, brighten and darken things, and do many more manipulations.

This particular section allows you to transform the picture in many different ways. There are tools that allow you to cut certain sections out, or get rid of parts of the picture that aren't needed. You can also lighten/ highlight certain features t help them stand out in comparison to the rest of the picture, in order to draw the audiences attention to particular areas. This tool bar was help as it assisted in ensuring certain elements go my audience stood out more than other, amdreally helped by advert seem more engaging. Naturally, audiences will trust their focus onto an area that is lighter, therefore by highlighted things, it helped to make the important parts easier to navigate.

This section of Pixelmatr is the area that shows what layer you are on. The more photos you add, essentially the more layers you will end up with.  This particular tool was helpful as it allows you to use different affect on certain pictures without affecting the other pictures. For instance, if you wanted to change the opacity for a top layer so that the picture underneath is visible, this would be help as it would enable you to do this on just one part of the entire project. For me, this tool was helpful because it could let e move text around to where I wanted them in relation to other pictures.

Text was vital to both my advert and newspaper article. For both of them, the text was the main bit that needed to be seen in order to understand the details such as times and dates. This tool being available was beneficial to my advert production and it allowed me to play around with various elements such as font, thickness, colour and size. Size really mattered in my advert as it highlighted the name of my documentary. The title was much bigger than any other text on the page, and other elements such as colour and underling helped identify the dates and times.

One final tool that was handy on Pixelmator was the effects tool. To use this, you had to click on a particular layer and picture/ text, and then apply the filter. From here you could then interpret the strength of the filter and also change how the effects are shaped. I used this with the the BBC logo that is in my bottom right of my advert. I put a light leak filter on it to help make the logo look a bit more alternative to reflect the vibrancy of the music documentary. By doing this, it illustrates to the audience that this isn't a conventional "dull" documentary that BBC show, rather that it is a interesting creative one that is not stereotypical.
